Meal planning shouldn’t require you to reinvent the wheel every single week.
Most of us already know what our families like, which nights are chaotic, what’s sitting in the freezer, and which meals are actually worth making again. The problem is that all of that information usually lives in our heads.
This 4-part series is about getting it out of your head and into a simple system that helps you plan faster, waste less, and make dinner feel easier.
Part 1: Write It Down Start with a simple weekly system to get the meals out of your head (or phone notes) - just write them down on a whiteboard that your whole family can see. Who knows, maybe your husband will see the evening's meal plan and cook it before you get the chance to!

Part 2: Let AI Do the Thinking Start dabbling in AI with smarter prompts to get realistic meal ideas, use what you already have, find actual recipes, connect meal prep/planning to your family's real-life schedule and reduce decision fatigue.
Part 3: Build Your Kitchen Brain Create one place to keep your recipes, family preferences, pantry staples, go-to meals, and planning information so you stop starting from scratch every week.
Part 4: Make It Smarter Over Time Track what your family actually liked, what was worth repeating, and what you’d change so your Kitchen Brain gets more useful every time you plan.
The goal isn’t a perfect meal-planning system. It’s a system that remembers more, thinks ahead, and carries a little more of the load for you.
Part 2: Let AI Do the Thinking
This is where AI starts becoming genuinely useful.
Instead of asking a broad question like “What should I make for dinner?” , give it the context you’re already considering anyway: your schedule, the proteins you have, what needs to get used, how much time you have, what your family likes, and what you absolutely do not want to cook.
The prompts in the guide are designed to help you do exactly that.
They’ll help you plan around real life, make better use of what you already have, find actual recipes, prep more strategically, and stop starting from zero every week.
Use them to:
- plan around your real weekly schedule
- use what you already have before buying more
- find quick dinners for busy nights
- prep ingredients once and use them across multiple meals
- intentionally cook once and serve twice
- find elevated recipes when you want something a little more interesting
- turn your preferences, pantry and past meals into a smarter planning system over time
You do not need a complicated AI system to start. Pick the prompt that solves this week’s problem, fill in the blanks, and paste it into ChatGPT or Claude.
Part 3 (coming soon) will show you how to take all of those recipes, preferences and household information and start building your own Kitchen Brain — so meal planning gets easier the more you use it. Part 3 gets quite a bit more in depth with AI, but you can think of this 4 part series as "choose your own adventure"...just pick whichever path will help you reduce the mental load of meal planning going forward!
